Faith Outside the Church

Last night in my discipleship group and again tonight in my small group Bible study, the discussion turned to living out our faith in public. When it comes to work, for instance, if we didn't tell our co-workers that we were Christians, would they know that? Would they just think we were kind people, or would they be able to tell that we followed Christ without any blatant signs like wearing a cross around our necks or hanging a Christian poster in our office?

What about when we're at the grocery store or other public areas--how can we demonstrate our faith there, with people who we may spend only a few seconds with and never see again?

How do you share your faith, at work and/or in public? Do you try to interject some sort of reference to God or His blessings into every conversation? Do you struggle, like me, to share your faith outside of the church building walls?

I try to really see people. And to realize that Jesus loves them and died for them just like me....it helps me, especially in Wal Mart!

I have learned a lot from listening to Jon O's stories about this. He has some of the most amazing stories about encounters with people, both friends and strangers. I think one huge key to sharing God with others is being in touch with what they are saying, hearing what their heart says. Some people are gifted with compassion moreso than than others, but seeking to see people as souls rather than distractions, inconveniences, judges, projects (the list is endless) I think we start to hear their hearts speak. From there, it's a matter of jumping in with both feet. Of course, encounters will range the entire spectrum from telling someone to have a "blessed" day to having them pour out their heart to you. If we can get over the initial fear, I think each time it will get easier & easier.
