My latest Booksneeze book review is of God's Love Letters to You by Dr. Larry Crabb. Based on Crabb's book 66 Love Letters, this newest book is a 40-day devotional guide. Each day focuses on a different book of the Bible, includes a brief Scripture passage (usually one or two verses), a few devotional thoughts, some reflection questions, and a suggested prayer.
The devotional guide is designed to help the reader view Scripture as deeply personal letters from God. Although brief, I found Crabb's devotional thoughts to be enlightening and often just what I needed to hear for that day. Reading the guide made me eager to read 66 Love Letters, which I hope to do soon.
That said, there are a couple of changes I would suggest for the devotional guide. For one, I would expand it to 66 days rather than limit it to 40 days, in keeping with the book that serves as its basis. I would also have enjoyed more than just a couple of verses of Scripture each day to give greater context and meaning to the passage.
All in all, I found God's Love Letters to You to be an enjoyable and encouraging, albeit too-brief, devotional companion to my daily Bible study. It will most likely find a home on my bookshelf and be re-read over time.
