Great Is Thy Faithfulness

Although I don't normally consider myself a worrier, from time to time I do find myself fretting over certain situations. Over the past few days, for instance, I've caught myself worrying over several issues ranging from my workload to loved ones who are going through tough times.

One of my all-time favorite hymns is "Great Is Thy Faithfulness." I've loved this song for years; it's one of those that I'd like played at my funeral as a reminder of, well, God's faithfulness. Not once but twice over the past week I've awakened to "Great Is Thy Faithfulness" playing on my clock radio. I couldn't help but laugh when I heard the song, as I knew immediately that God was reminding me that He is indeed in control and I have no need to worry.

In case you need a gentle reminder of God's faithfulness toward you, here are the lyrics to this old favorite:

"Great is Thy faithfulness," O God my Father,
There is no shadow of turning with Thee;
Thou changest not, Thy compassions, they fail not
As Thou hast been Thou forever wilt be.

"Great is Thy faithfulness!" "Great is Thy faithfulness!"
  Morning by morning new mercies I see;
All I have needed Thy hand hath provided—
    "Great is Thy faithfulness," Lord, unto me!

Summer and winter, and springtime and harvest,
Sun, moon and stars in their courses above,
Join with all nature in manifold witness
To Thy great faithfulness, mercy and love.

Pardon for sin and a peace that endureth,
Thy own dear presence to cheer and to guide;
Strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow,
Blessings all mine, with ten thousand beside!
