Book Review: Earthen Vessels

I recently read Earthen Vessels by Matthew Lee Anderson as part of Bethany House Publishers' book review program. Subtitled "Why Our Bodies Matter to Our Faith", the book examines various aspects of our physical selves and how they relate to our faith.

The book covers a variety of topics ranging from tattoos and sexuality to mortality and the spiritual disciplines. I have to say that I found this book a hard one to really get into. It's definitely not a light read by any stretch; it reads more like a senior thesis or dissertation and certainly provides a lot of food for thought. I do believe that our physical selves is a topic that is seldom addressed by the church but should be. However, I found this particular book on the subject to be a fairly dry read that will probably not appeal to the casual reader.

Disclosure of Material Connection: I received this book free from the publisher through the Bethany House Publishers book review bloggers program. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.
